Duet. (JL)

The child’s heart wants what it wants,

It does not see the dos and don’ts.

The child we see, less and less,

In adult life we acquiesce.

But then a tune, a song, a dance,

You recognise, you knew it once.

And here they are, they know it too,

In part, you’re them and they are you.

As children are, you’re so excited,

Forgetting all that could be blighted.

In song and dance, a great duet,

Though temporary, not to regret.

A song was sung, a dance was danced,

No longer now with whom you pranced.

The path will bend, turn and twist,

Causing now, a saddening rift.

One thing that’s true makes spirits lift,

Experience is life’s true gift.
