Duet. (JL)

The child’s heart wants what it wants,

It does not see the dos and don’ts.

The child we see, less and less,

In adult life we acquiesce.

But then a tune, a song, a dance,

You recognise, you knew it once.

And here they are, they know it too,

In part, you’re them and they are you.

As children are, you’re so excited,

Forgetting all that could be blighted.

In song and dance, a great duet,

Though temporary, not to regret.

A song was sung, a dance was danced,

No longer now with whom you pranced.

The path will bend, turn and twist,

Causing now, a saddening rift.

One thing that’s true makes spirits lift,

Experience is life’s true gift.

The Cycle

Debt begets debt

That’s a fact we forget

All our jewelry and trainers, our cars and our pets

Make us slaves to the money

That leaves us with regrets

We admire the richest

For the things that they have

We aspire to be them

Whilst we suffer their wrath

If in money we place

All our hopes and our dreams

Then those who create it

Can work wondrous schemes

Just a flash in the past

Was Athenian democracy

Now forcing rifts in our class

Is this constant hypocrisy

As money is lent

To those we give power

It comes with a debt

From which we all cower

This debt will not lessen

It can only grow

So we watch others get poorer

As we reap what they sow

We will never escape

And we will never be free

From the terrible cycle

Until we all see

That money is debt

And debt equals money

And the worst of it all

Is that we partake freely.

New Year

Another year gone, another year passed

Another one here, moving just as fast

It may bring joy, it may bring pain

No matter what happens, some things will remain

There are many more to come

There are many been and gone

From a beginning and an end

We can never defend

Embrace it all, whether good or bad

And at all times, do your best to be glad

There’s no need to feel sorrow

When your end does appear

A new start will follow

Have a blessed new year

The Train

Take your route and I’ll see you there

The unanswerable question. Where?

We don’t know but we ought not to mind

Whatever it is one day you’ll find

Every secret, every lie

Time’s not real. How? Why?

I’ll teach you if, you’ll just join me

On the journey where, we cannot see

Where are we going? I hear you call

It does not matter, for we are all

Upon the same train, with no brakes

And as it gives, it also takes

Although the train, is all we’ve known

Wherever it leads, we can call home.
